Bayern Leverkusen allows Xabi Alonso’s potential exit amid coaching success

Xabi Alonso has emerged as one of the most prominent coaches in Europe. In just a year at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen, he has transformed the team, taking them from a relegation battle upon his arrival at the BayArena a year ago to achieving the best start in Bundesliga history.

The team currently leads the table with ten wins and one draw in the first eleven matchdays of the Bundesliga this season, amassing 31 points out of 33, two more than second-placed Bayern Munich.

Given such success, it’s not surprising that Xabi Alonso’s name frequently surfaces in discussions within his former clubs, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Liverpool.

This speculation is fueled by rumors of a potential release clause in the 47-year-old manager’s contract.

However, Bayer Leverkusen has stated that they will not hold Xabi Alonso against his will.

Fernando Carro, the club’s CEO, affirmed this in a statement to talkSPORT.

When asked about Alonso having a release clause for his former clubs, Carro responded, «No, but you don’t need a clause. We have very, very good relations with Xabi, and he knows we are a serious club. Ultimately, we won’t force someone to stay if they don’t want to. We want him to feel so happy and comfortable with us that he genuinely wants to stay, and that’s our goal. »
