Sam Altman joins Microsoft’s advanced AI Research Team after OpenAI ousting

Sam Altman, who was recently ousted from OpenAI, has joined Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Altman’s abrupt dismissal from OpenAI had sparked speculation about his next move, including the possibility of returning to OpenAI or launching a rival company.

However, he has now joined Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI. The move comes amid controversy over the handling of Altman’s dismissal and concerns within the tech industry about potential disruptions.

Meanwhile, Emmett Shear, former CEO of Twitch, will become the new head of OpenAI.

Shear expressed concerns about the existential threat posed by AI but pledged to investigate Altman’s departure and reform the leadership team at OpenAI.

Altman played a significant role in the rise of OpenAI and is considered influential in the AI space.
