Togo/Politics: Nothing hinders the Organization of Upcoming Elections in Togo
In Togo, there are no more obstacles to the organization of various elections scheduled for late 2023 and the coming years. With the new electoral register ready and reliable, the country’s authorities should soon embark on organizing electoral events, especially the regional elections for the election of regional councillors. Also, legislative elections to elect parliamentarians to the National Assembly.
After an audit by experts from the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) on the new Togolese electoral register resulting from the latest census, final and reassuring conclusions were provided.
According to the Ambassador, Special Political and Diplomatic Adviser to the Secretary-General of the OIF, Désiré Nyaruhirira, the register is sufficiently reliable for the conduct of the upcoming regional and legislative elections under conditions of trust.
From October 20 to 27 of last year, the OIF conducted an external and independent audit of the Togolese electoral register.
The ambassador emphasized that the activities of the experts’ audit were carried out independently by conducting rigorous and objective analyses of the legal and operational framework.
On this Togolese electoral register, 53.8% of women and 46.18% of men are registered.
According to the Minister in charge of communication and government spokesperson, Yawa Kuigan, Togo stands out in terms of inclusion and political participation of women.
