Nigeria triumphs over Angola in AFCON 2023 Quarter-Final, securing semifinal spot with Narrow victory

In the quarter-final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeria faced Angola, where the Palancas Negras showed resilience but the Super Eagles emerged victorious.

Despite not being the favorites, Angola had an early chance with Mabululu’s close attempt from a corner, saved by Stanley Nwabali (5th minute).

Nigeria responded 20 minutes later with Victor Osimhen’s header, but it lacked threat (25th minute).

Nigeria took the lead with Lookman Ademola’s powerful left-footed shot from a counter-attack initiated by Moses Simons (1-0, 41st minute).

Angola nearly equalized, but Estrela’s attempt was blocked by William Trost-Ekong’s tackle (43rd minute).

In the second half, Nigeria couldn’t secure a comfortable lead, and Angola came close to leveling the score, with Zini hitting the post (60th minute).

Despite Victor Osimhen’s disallowed goal due to offside (75th minute) and missed opportunities, Nigeria secured a narrow victory, advancing to the semi-finals.

They now await the winner between Cape Verde and South Africa as their next opponent.
