DRC: Judith Suminwa launches strategic tour of Greater Kasai to boost development

As part of local governance efforts, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, is launching an important tour of the Greater Kasai region this weekend. The trip begins on Saturday, May 24, in Kananga, the capital of Kasai-Central, before continuing to Tshikapa, the capital of Kasai Province.

After visiting several other regions of the country—including the East, Greater Bandundu, Tanganyika, Kongo Central, and Greater Katanga—the head of government is now heading to Greater Kasai to fulfill presidential commitments and accelerate the implementation of her Government Action Program (PAG 2024–2028).

In Kananga, the mission focuses on three main areas: evaluating ongoing projects, consulting with local stakeholders, and launching concrete development initiatives for the province. The Prime Minister will inspect several key sites, including the Notre Dame–Airport road segment (11 km), the rehabilitation works at Kananga Airport, the erosion site at Manu wa Carmel, the Kananga–Kalamba Mbuji road, and the redevelopment of Kamwandu Avenue (Tshiliejelu project).

Tshikapa is also preparing to warmly welcome the Prime Minister. The local population has high expectations for this visit, hoping it will trigger concrete progress on priority projects through the central government’s involvement. According to the Prime Minister’s office, this hands-on approach boosts the effectiveness of development projects and strengthens trust between citizens and their leaders. Beyond development matters, the tour also aims to raise awareness among the population about defending the national territory against Rwandan aggression through the M23 rebel group. Judith Suminwa is expected to particularly encourage the youth of Greater Kasai to join the national defense and security forces.

Ahead of the tour, Judith Suminwa met in Kinshasa with the governors of Kasai-Central, Joseph-Moïse Kambulu, and Kasai, Crispin Mukendi. Both advocated for increased government support for key infrastructure projects, especially strategic roads, the Katende and Mbombo hydroelectric dams, and Kananga Airport. Through this tour, the Prime Minister reaffirms her government’s commitment to realizing the six pillars of President Félix Tshisekedi’s second term.
