Burkina Faso: Resilience and patriotism, when the families of fallen soldiers support Faso Mêbo

In Bobo-Dioulasso, this Saturday, July 5, 2025, a gesture rich in symbolism and patriotism marked the city: widows and orphans of fallen soldiers donated three tons of cement to the leaders of the presidential initiative “Faso Mêbo”. This donation was sponsored by the commander of the second military region, Lieutenant-Colonel Lassané Porgo.

Despite the lingering pain of losing their loved ones, these bereaved families chose not to remain on the sidelines of civic life. Their contribution—modest in appearance but of great symbolic significance—aims to support the transformation of the city as part of “Faso Mêbo”, a presidential initiative launched in October 2024 to promote the beautification, sanitation, and accelerated urbanization of Burkina Faso’s major cities.

The spokesperson for the donors emphasized that this gesture is a way to honor the memory of their husbands, fathers, or brothers who died for the nation. By participating in a collective effort, they affirm their determination to remain active in the country’s development and to carry on the struggle begun by their loved ones.

Lieutenant-Colonel Lassané Porgo praised this civic act, describing it as a lesson in resilience and patriotism. “This donation, coming from those already burdened by loss, goes beyond its material value. It calls on each of us to mobilize for the reconstruction of the country”, he said. He also expressed his gratitude to the women and children, noting that their gesture inspires courage in the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) still engaged on the ground.

After the donation, the group of widows and orphans visited the artisanal village in Sector 14 to take part in making paving stones—a collective effort carried out enthusiastically alongside local workers.

Through this act, the widows and orphans reaffirm their commitment to the nation and call on all Burkinabe to join this civic movement to build a common, dignified, and united future.
