Ivory Coast: ALINO Faso executed in prison – are the authorities trying to cover up a state crime?

The death of activist ALINO Faso, officially presented as a suicide, is in fact believed to be a politically motivated assassination, orchestrated to silence a vocal critic of the Ivorian regime. Arrested on January 10, 2025, and accused of conspiracy and spreading false information, he was, in reality, a steadfast defender of justice—hunted by a government intolerant of dissent.

According to the statement from the Prosecutor of the Republic, ALINO Faso allegedly committed suicide in prison—a claim both indecent and implausible. Multiple sources, including Sahel24.info, reveal a much darker truth: he was brutally tortured by agents of the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DST) before being coldly executed. The methods used? Shears, drowning, mutilation—acts of barbarity reminiscent of the worst authoritarian regimes.

Worse still, after his murder, his executioners reportedly staged the suicide—tearing his bedsheets and manipulating his body to cover up the truth. This charade fools no one: how can we believe that a man imprisoned for his ideas would take his own life on the eve of his trial?

The day before his death, Henry Sebgo—a known ally of the regime—falsely accused him of colluding with foreign entities, fueling a smear campaign that led to his judicial lynching. Today, the government hopes to bury the case, but we reject this complicit silence.

The international community, independent media, and human rights organizations must demand an independent investigation. Côte d’Ivoire must not descend into impunity. ALINO Faso was a martyr for freedom—his blood cries out for justice.
