Burkina-Faso: Strengthening educational cooperation, Russia doubles scholarships for Burkinabe students

As part of the official visit of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a concrete strengthening of educational cooperation between Moscow and Ouagadougou. The number of scholarships granted to Burkinabe students has more than doubled for the 2024–2025 academic year.

This initiative reflects Russia’s commitment to supporting Burkina Faso in the training of its future leaders. To date, nearly 3,500 Burkinabe nationals have already been educated in Russian institutions, and 27 additional scholarships will expand this dynamic further this year. “We will continue to contribute to the training of professionals”, President Vladimir Putin assured.

Beyond the numbers, this political will is part of a broader cooperation, supported by cultural channels such as the Russian House in Ouagadougou, which offers Russian language instruction and fosters human exchange. Health, sanitation, and education are among the areas where Russia aims to deepen its partnership with Burkina Faso.

This strong gesture from Moscow reaffirms the strategic importance both countries place on education as a pillar of development and national sovereignty.
