Mali: President Assimi Goïta charts a new course for the country with the promulgation of the new Transition Charter

The Head of State, Army General Assimi Goïta, has officially promulgated the revised Charter of the Transition. This enactment marks a decisive turning point in Mali’s political process.

By signing this law, which was unanimously adopted by the National Transitional Council (CNT), the Transitional President not only exercises his political initiative but also reaffirms his central role in redefining the country’s institutional direction.

The revised charter extends the duration of the transition to five years, renewable as many times as deemed necessary, granting the executive branch unprecedented flexibility to carry out the national “pacification” process. In other words, stability is now a prerequisite for holding elections in Mali.

The promulgation of this charter follows the April 2025 consultations, presented as an inclusive approach. It reflects both popular support and legitimacy for the ongoing process, with the central objective of building a peaceful, stable, and sovereign Mali.

This act by General Assimi Goïta is therefore highly symbolic and demonstrates a clear political will. It is part of the broader effort to refound the nation, with guaranteed security and full sovereignty as its foundation. President Goïta’s visionary leadership is further embodied through the enactment of this new Charter.
