Burkina Faso/Russia: Strengthened energy cooperation for the benefit of the people

The Russian Federation continues to deepen its strategic ties with Burkina Faso. On the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Russian Minister of Energy, Mr. Sergey Tsivilev, was warmly received at Ouagadougou International Airport by the Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Brigadier General Célestin Simporé. A high-level working meeting between the two delegations is scheduled for Wednesday.

This visit marks a decisive step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Ouagadougou and Moscow, particularly in the strategic energy sector. It comes at a time when Burkina Faso, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, is actively pursuing sovereign and diversified partnerships to meet the country’s pressing development needs.

Minister Tsivilev emphasized the exceptional quality of relations between the two nations, built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to progress. “I am convinced that together, we are capable of doing everything possible to improve the lives of our peoples”, he stated, affirming Russia’s commitment to supporting Burkina Faso’s energy ambitions.

The discussions are expected to focus on concrete cooperation projects in energy production and transport, infrastructure investments, and technology transfer. A win-win partnership is under consideration, aimed at delivering sustainable solutions to the country’s energy deficit, which continues to hinder growth and industrial transformation.
