Burkina Faso: The fine coal affair comes to an end: The State of Burkina Faso has officially recovered the cargo

The government of Burkina Faso has officially recovered the cargo of fine coal following an agreement reached with the mining company I AM Gold Essakane SA. The mine tailings, which have been stored for some time at the dry port of Bobo-Dioulasso, are now being transported to Ouagadougou by 17 trucks.

The aim of this operation is to enable the 400 tonnes of fine coal to be processed and all the gold to be extracted for the benefit of the government of Burkina Faso, in the interests of transparency.

The governor of the Hauts-Bassins region, Mariama Konaté/Gnanou, stressed the importance of ensuring transparency in the handling of this project.

To this end, a supervisory committee, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Mines, ASCE-LC, the anti-fraud brigade and civil society organisations, has been set up to monitor the process.

The agreement between the parties provides for the State of Burkina Faso to receive CFAF 9 billion in addition to the cargo.

The fine coal will be processed in Ouagadougou, at the mine tailings processing plant inaugurated last January by President Ibrahim Traoré.
