Intense Competition on Manchester City’s Left Wing: Grealish vs. Doku

At Manchester City, competition for positions is fierce, particularly on the left wing of the attack. Jack Grealish, a former player, and the new signing Jeremy Doku are engaged in a heated battle. Jack Grealish, acquired for €100 million in 2021 from Aston Villa, quickly became a cornerstone under Pep Guardiola’s management.

However, his status as an undisputed starter has been questioned this season due to injuries and a lack of significant contributions.

In contrast, Jeremy Doku, who arrived from Rennes this summer, has made an immediate impact.

He has started in seven out of the twelve games he’s played, scoring three goals and providing six assists.

Doku’s ability to unsettle defenses and excel in one-on-one situations has impressed Guardiola.

When asked about the emerging competition, Guardiola emphasized a merit-based approach, stating that the player who performs better will receive more playing time.

He wants both Grealish and Doku to be frustrated when they are not on the field, as this, in his view, will maintain consistency at the highest level.

Guardiola faces a challenging decision on which player to select for crucial matches.
