The European Union will sponsor the AFCON 2025

In a landmark deal, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has secured the European Union as a key partner for its upcoming competitions. The agreement, announced today, will see the EU sponsor:

  • The 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
  • The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
  • The CAF African School Football Championship

This unprecedented partnership marks the first time the European Commission directly backs CAF tournaments. While financial details remain undisclosed, the deal represents a significant boost for African football’s commercial appeal.

The sponsorship comes as CAF seeks to elevate its competitions’ global profile following successful recent tournaments that attracted record viewership.

Analysts suggest the EU’s involvement could lead to increased investment in youth development and women’s football programs.
