Nepal in Turmoil as Youth-Led Protests Demand Chang

Nepal is facing an unprecedented political and social crisis, marked by massive demonstrations led primarily by young people, especially Generation Z. Sparked by the government’s ban on social media platforms such as Facebook, X, and YouTube, the protests reflect deep frustration over corruption, nepotism, and the lack of economic opportunities.

In Kathmandu and several other cities, the demonstrations quickly escalated into violent clashes with security forces. Government buildings were set on fire, the airport was disrupted, and a curfew was imposed, plunging the capital into turmoil. The human toll is severe, with at least 20 deaths and hundreds of injuries reported. In response to mounting pressure, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli announced his resignation, further deepening political uncertainty.

The army has been deployed to patrol the streets and restore order, while demonstrators continue to press for far-reaching reforms. The movement, largely decentralized and without a single leader, signals a new civic awakening driven by the country’s youth.

Beyond opposition to digital censorship, these events highlight the determination of an entire generation to break away from a failing system and demand a future built on justice, transparency, and equal opportunity.
