Niger: Government lowers cement prices to ease burden on households and boost construction

The Nigerien government has announced a historic 35% reduction in the price of cement, a landmark measure aimed at making construction more affordable for the population. In a context of high demand for housing and infrastructure, this decision reflects the authorities’ determination to provide concrete responses to social concerns.

From now on, the price of a ton of cement will range between 51,000 and 59,000 CFA francs depending on the region, while a 50 kg bag will sell for 2,750 CFA francs in Niamey. This reform significantly eases the financial burden on households and businesses, particularly those operating in the construction sector.

To ensure price stability and protect local consumers, the government has also taken another strong step: banning cement exports. This strategic choice is designed to secure domestic supply, prevent shortages, and safeguard the purchasing power of Nigeriens.

At the same time, several projects to establish new production plants are underway.

These facilities will not only increase the national supply of cement but also create local jobs and strengthen the country’s industrial self-sufficiency.
