Burkina Faso launches state-owned FASO GUULGO to boost livestock feed sovereignty

In a decisive move to strengthen Burkina Faso’s economic and food sovereignty, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo inaugurated the state-owned company FASO GUULGO on May 6, 2025, in Koubri. The newly nationalized industrial unit—formerly SOFAB—marks a pivotal step in rebuilding the nation’s agropastoral and fisheries sectors.

With an initial production capacity of 100 tons of animal feed per day (expandable to 150 tons), FASO GUULGO is central to the government’s strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in livestock, poultry, and fish feed.

The initiative addresses critical challenges faced by breeders, including high costs and limited access to quality feed, while supporting Burkina Faso’s broader agropastoral transformation.

President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision of endogenous development and national sovereignty underpins the project.

By localizing production of essential agricultural inputs, FASO GUULGO embodies his administration’s commitment to sustainable, homegrown solutions.

Beyond economic benefits, the state-owned enterprise enhances food and nutritional security while creating opportunities for local stakeholders.

Plans to establish additional units in Bagré and Samandéni will further decentralize industrial production.

More than just a factory, FASO GUULGO symbolizes Captain Traoré’s resolute political will to build a sovereign, resilient Burkina Faso—one in control of its own resources.
