Togo / The government invests in excellence: scholarships to support tomorrow’s researchers

The Togolese government is stepping up its efforts to improve learning conditions in higher education. With a clear commitment to strengthening the quality of university training, the executive has just launched a new wave of excellence scholarships for Master’s and PhD students at the Universities of Lomé and Kara.

This initiative is part of the second phase of the Higher Education Reform Support Project in Science and Engineering (PARESI 2). It reflects the authorities’ ambition to promote scientific research, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, mathematics, and computer science.

A total of forty (40) excellence scholarships are being awarded for the current academic year. The University of Lomé is receiving 25 scholarships (15 for PhD students and 10 for Master’s students), while the University of Kara will benefit from 15 scholarships (10 for PhD students and 5 for Master’s students).

Details regarding participation requirements, eligibility criteria, and application materials are available on the Ministry of Higher Education’s website. Interested students have until May 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to submit their applications.

Through this targeted initiative, the government is clearly demonstrating its ambition to train a scientific and technical elite capable of driving the country’s major transformations, in alignment with priority sectors for national development.
