Burkina Faso: A major step towards sustainable electrification in the presence of H.E. Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla

The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyèlèm de Tambèla, presided over the inauguration of the Kodeni photovoltaic solar power plant in Matourkou, in the Hauts-Bassins region. The event took place on Saturday, December 16, marking a crucial milestone in the country’s efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy.

With a capacity of 38 MWc, the solar plant, constructed on a 70-hectare site, is intended to produce an average of 73 GWh of energy per year for the National Interconnected Grid (RNI).

This will provide electricity to approximately 42,000 households, significantly enhancing access to electricity for citizens.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of the state as the guarantor of AFRICAREN’s compliance with contractual agreements. AFRICAREN is responsible for the construction and operation of the plant.

He stressed the need for AFRICAREN to adhere to the strictest standards to ensure the reliability and continuous operational success of the facility.

The Minister of Energy, Simon Pierre Boussim, added that the construction of the plant had considered traditional aspects, ensuring a harmonious collaboration with the local population.

He highlighted that, during ritual periods, the local population would be allowed to perform their rites, illustrating a positive collaboration between the community and the enterprise.

The Kodeni solar plant represents a significant step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to environmental preservation and the promotion of sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
