DRC: Key takeaways from the strategic meeting between Félix Tshisekedi and Cyril Ramaphosa in Pretoria

Presidents Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Cyril Ramaphosa of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) met on Thursday, September 18, at the Mahlamba Ndlopfu presidential residence in Pretoria. This working visit is part of ongoing efforts to consolidate bilateral relations and strengthen strategic cooperation between the two nations.

At the center of the talks, the two heads of state reaffirmed their shared determination to elevate political, economic, and security cooperation to a higher level. Both the DRC and South Africa, influential members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), share a common commitment to regional stability and integration.

Discussions focused in particular on regional economic integration, with an emphasis on facilitating trade and reciprocal investment.

The DRC, rich in natural resources, and South Africa, the continent’s industrial powerhouse, are looking to deepen synergies to boost growth and shared prosperity.

On the security front, the two presidents reaffirmed the need to intensify cooperation in combating transnational threats and to support regional mechanisms aimed at restoring peace in fragile areas of Southern and Central Africa.
