Tennis/ Turin’s ATP Finals: Sinner shatters Djokovic’s streak, Tsitsipas exits injured: Unfold in Dramatic twists

Jannik Sinner delighted Italian tennis fans with a spectacular victory over Novak Djokovic in Tuesday’s ATP Finals match in Turin, breaking Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak. The home crowd played a crucial role in fueling Sinner’s triumph, with the young Italian securing a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) win after a thrilling three-hour battle.

The intense match saw both players refusing to take a step back, but it was the 20-year-old Sinner who capitalized on the decisive tiebreak in the third set.

14 years Djokovic’s junior, the Italian star clinched his first career victory against the 24-time Grand Slam champion with a smashing finish, prompting resounding cheers from the sold-out audience.

While Sinner currently leads the group, his spot in the semi-finals is not yet guaranteed, pending his final round-robin match against Holger Rune on Thursday.

In an earlier development on the same day, Stefanos Tsitsipas faced disappointment as he exited his second Green Group match against Holger Rune after just three games, citing injury concerns.

The Sixth in ATP Rankings, who had raised doubts about his fitness before the tournament, showed no apparent distress during his initial loss to Sinner.

However, during the third game against Rune, Tsitsipas noticeably struggled, eventually sitting down gingerly on his bench at 2-1 down.

Despite calling for the trainer and a brief discussion, Tsitsipas chose to withdraw, receiving a chorus of jeers and whistles from the disappointed crowd.

Tsitsipas’ departure adds a layer of uncertainty to the tournament, leaving fans to wonder about his future participation and the impact on the overall dynamics of the competition.
