Young Burkinabe suffer another setback in U-17 World Football cup

The Junior Stallions suffer another setback in the U-17 World Football Cup, succumbing to a second consecutive defeat. Following a heavy 3-0 loss to France, the young Burkinabè team faced another defeat, this time 2-1 against the United States. This additional loss significantly complicates Burkina Faso’s chances of advancing.

After a challenging debut marked by a 3-0 defeat against France, the Junior Stallions aimed to rebound in their second match against the American youth team.

However, Brahima Traoré’s squad couldn’t achieve this turnaround. In their match on the morning of November 15, 2023, against the United States, the Junior Stallions ultimately fell 2-1.

Despite a hopeful first half, the Junior Stallions faltered in the final moments of the initial 45 minutes.

Keyrol Figueroa opened the scoring for the young Americans in the 45th minute, followed by Nimfasha Berchimas extending the lead to 2-0 in the final seconds of added time in the first half.

Returning from the locker rooms, the Americans continued their positive momentum, challenging the Junior Stallions with their collective play.

It wasn’t until the 89th minute that the Junior Stallions showed a response, as Jack Diarra, who came off the bench, managed to pull one back.

The Junior Stallions even missed the chance to equalize moments later when Souleymane Alio’s shot hit the crossbar. The score remained unchanged until the referee’s final whistle.

With a score of 2-1, signifying a second victory for the Americans and a second defeat for the Junior Stallions, the latter no longer control their destiny and are practically eliminated from the competition.

This outcome comes ahead of the group’s other match between France and South Korea.
