Niger: New board elected at the Chamber of Trades and Crafts to revitalize the sector

The Niger Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMANI) now has a new leadership team. Following the elective general assembly held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Niamey, artisans from the country’s eight regions elected a five-member national bureau to head the institution.

This bureau is chaired by Mr. Sahabi Yagi, assisted by Mr. Maman Gogé as 1st Vice-President and Mr. Moise Hamidou Amos as 2nd Vice-President. Financial management has been entrusted to Mr. Hamidou Sarki, General Treasurer, supported by Ms. Mariama Idrissa, Deputy General Treasurer. All were elected by acclamation, reflecting the unanimous support of the delegates.

The presentation ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts, Mr. Anafi Souleymane, in the presence of a bailiff, ministry officials, and regional artisan delegations. He praised the smooth conduct of the proceedings, carried out in a spirit of transparency and responsibility. “This election is proof of the maturity of our sector and demonstrates the importance given to dialogue and to the future of craftsmanship,” he stated.

The ministry’s representative also congratulated the artisans for their mobilization and unity, stressing that Nigerien craftsmanship is a pillar of cohesion and a driver of development. “Together, we must make craftsmanship a true engine of economic growth, cultural promotion, and sustainable job creation,” he affirmed.

The ministry also reiterated its commitment to supporting the new bureau in fulfilling its mission, by providing technical and institutional assistance.

Elected for a four-year term, the new CMANI leaders will be tasked with strengthening the sector’s structure, enhancing its national and international reputation, and defending the interests of artisans. Their roadmap will focus on innovation, cooperation, and the promotion of Nigerien know-how, with the goal of making craftsmanship a central pillar of the country’s economy and development.
