Controversial Penalty decision sparks UEFA response: VAR official absent from Real Sociedad vs. RB Salzburg Clash

The controversy surrounding the late penalty awarded to Paris Saint-Germain against Newcastle continues to dominate discussions on Wednesday. Criticism is directed at referee Szymon Marciniak for the contentious decision, and the consequences are now being felt by the VAR referee.

In England, Szymon Marciniak’s decision is met with disapproval. Many voices in the kingdom have risen to denounce the refereeing scandal or even theft for some.

Several observers fail to understand why the central referee was not called earlier in the match by the VAR to review a similar handball incident involving Lewis Miley.

In addition to the Polish referee, VAR official Tomasz Kwiatkowski has also been criticized for allegedly misleading the central referee.

UEFA’s Response According to SkySports, UEFA has taken up the matter. The British media explains that Tomasz Kwiatkowski, who was supposed to officiate as VAR again tonight in the Champions League clash between Real Sociedad and RB Salzburg, will not be present.

For now, it is still unclear whether this is a sidelining or just a change of plans. However, it remains highly likely that this decision is related to Tuesday night’s match at Parc des Princes. Stay tuned.
