NBA/ Philadelphia: Joel Embiid records a Double-Double against Detroit

Joel Embiid’s dominant performance with 33 points and 16 rebounds led the Philadelphia 76ers to their seventh consecutive victory, defeating the Detroit Pistons 114-106 in the NBA In-Season Tournament opener. Tyrese Maxey contributed 29 points and 10 assists with zero turnovers, while Tobias Harris added 24 points. The 76ers, undefeated since their opening loss, showcased balanced scoring from their starters, emphasizing the need for production beyond individual stars.

Killian Hayes led the short-handed Pistons with 23 points, and Cade Cunningham added 21.

Despite losing Jalen Duren to an ankle injury, the Pistons’ coach, Monty Williams, emphasized not using injuries as an excuse.

 Detroit struggled with fouls, allowing 41 free-throw attempts, including 19 for Embiid.

In the third quarter, an injury scare occurred when Cunningham collided with Embiid, briefly causing concern.

Although Embiid limped off, he returned after a timeout. Patrick Beverly missed the second half due to neck soreness.

Despite Detroit leading 71-68 late in the third, the 76ers closed the period with a 15-6 run, taking an 83-77 lead.

 Philadelphia dominated the quarter, outscoring the Pistons 35-21, with Embiid contributing 16 points.

The 76ers extended their lead in the fourth quarter, scoring the first five points and securing a comfortable victory with a 17-point lead down the stretch.

The Pistons had initially led 33-21 at the end of the first quarter and by as many as 16 in the second.
