Gabon/Guinea-Bissau: President Brice Visits his Counterpart Umaro Sissoco Embalo

The President of the Transition and Gabonese Head of State, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, visited Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. This visit coincides with the delayed commemoration on Thursday, November 16, of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the country led by General Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

Having assumed power in Gabon since August 30th, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will attend two events in Guinea-Bissau alongside other heads of state.

In addition to the independence festivities, President Umaro Sissoco Embalo is also organizing a day for the Guinean Armed Forces, celebrated every November 16th.

This visit serves as a great opportunity for the two statesmen to revitalize and strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Gabon, a country in Central Africa, and Guinea-Bissau, a country in West Africa.

These are two African brother countries that have consistently maintained good political and diplomatic relations.

It’s worth noting that Guinea-Bissau gained its independence on September 24, 1973.

In 2023, it has been 50 years since the country was liberated from Portuguese colonial rule.

For the festivities of this national commemoration, eight heads of state have been invited.
