Algeria aims to export 35 million dollars ‘worth of fish products to Africa by 2023

Algeria is aiming to increase its export earnings from fish products to other African countries, with a target of more than 35 million dollars by the end of 2023.

Ahmed Badani, Algeria’s Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced this intention at a time when the country’s fisheries and aquaculture sector is forecasting 23% growth in total production, reaching 120,000 tonnes.

The main fish products exported include bluefin tuna, crustaceans, cephalopod molluscs and other fish species.

Algeria is also looking to boost the processing of fish products, particularly tuna and sardines, with export projects currently under study.

Tunisia is the main destination for Algerian fisheries products in Africa, although exports to other African countries accounted for around 10% of total revenues in the Algerian fisheries sector in 2022, reaching 41.3 million dollars.
