Injuries continue to plague Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey/ His participation in the 2023 AFCON is in doubt

Persistent injuries have plagued the Arsenal midfielder throughout the current season, severely limiting his playing time. Despite recently returning from a groin injury, the 30-year-old suffered a setback during training, sidelining him for over a month.

Recent reports indicate that the Ghanaian international has undergone a specialized procedure to address a thigh injury, forcing him to miss the remainder of the year.

Consequently, Partey was not included in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, is scheduled to face Madagascar on Friday, November 17, followed by a match against Comoros four days later.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed Partey’s extended absence, stating, «I think he will be out for weeks. I don’t know how long, but he’s got another appointment today [and] we will see more after that».

Arteta expressed concern about Partey’s injury record, emphasizing the midfielder’s positive impact when fit and available.

Addressing the ongoing challenges, the Arsenal coach added, «This season we’ve had more protection, especially for that reason because we know in the last two seasons what had happened and the impact that had on the team. We have to address it».

Regrettably, Partey is also expected to miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to commence on January 13, 2024, adding further disappointment to his injury-ridden season.
