Togo / Tourism: «We can proudly state that Togo is positioning itself as an essential destination in the sub-regional market», says Kossi Lamadokou

Under the enlightened leadership of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé and the strategic guidance of the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Kossi Gbégnon Lamadokou, Togo is undergoing a remarkable transformation in the tourism sector. The combined efforts of these two key figures have propelled the country onto the sub-regional stage as an indispensable tourist destination.

«We can proudly state that Togo is positioning itself as an essential destination in the sub-regional market», affirmed the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Kossi Gbégnon Lamadokou, during the International Tourism Day in Togo.

Minister Lamadokou indeed highlighted Togo’s positioning in the sub-regional market, emphasizing the continuous influx of tourists each year.

In 2022, the country welcomed nearly a million visitors, a significant growth compared to the previous year, with 983,969 visitors and revenue of 25 billion FCFA.

The figures from 2020 also testify to the sector’s growth, with over 480,000 tourists generating financial benefits of 19 billion FCFA.

These positive results confirm Togo’s increasing attractiveness as a leading tourist destination.

Minister Lamadokou attributes this success to the creation of favorable conditions resulting from the coordinated effort of all components of the tourism production chain in the country.

The government’s strategic choice to prioritize tourism in its five-year roadmap is now fully justified.

Since 2020, Togo has launched several bold initiatives to boost the tourism sector, including the development of the Koutammakou cultural heritage site and the update of the country’s cultural policy.

These actions demonstrate the ongoing commitment to the sustainable development of tourism in Togo.

In this positive momentum, Togo positions itself as a destination rich in cultural and natural diversity, offering a unique experience to visitors.

Under the vision of President Faure Gnassingbé and the strategic direction of Minister Lamadokou, Togo asserts itself as a tourist gem to be explored.
