Oriol Romeu’s potential return to Girona amidst FC Barcelona struggles

Despite a promising start at FC Barcelona following his summer move from Girona, Oriol Romeu, a 32-year-old Spaniard, has struggled to make an impact, having played only 11 La Liga matches with the Blaugrana.

His underwhelming performances have raised questions about his future with the Catalan club.

According to several Spanish media outlets, FC Barcelona is already searching for a new midfielder to replace Romeu in the upcoming winter transfer window, having initially spent just over 3 million euros to acquire the player from Girona.

Amidst rumors surrounding Romeu’s potential departure, a potential exit door has opened for the Spaniard.

Girona’s Sporting Director, Quique Cárcel, has expressed interest in bringing back his former player:

«If Oriol Romeu leaves Barça, we would like to bring him back. He would be important here. Neither the club nor the player has informed us that he might leave, but if he does, we would like to have him», stated Quique Cárcel to Mundo Deportivo.

Girona FC currently leads La Liga after 13 matchdays, boasting 34 points and sitting ahead of both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

This success marks a remarkable turnaround for a club that was competing in the depths of the second division just two years ago.
