Gabon/Transition: The CTRI proposes two (02) years of political transition

In power since 30 August 2023, following the coup that toppled President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) has published its provisional timetable. This two-year timetable should lead to elections in August 2025.

According to the press release read out on national television on Monday 13 November by CTRI spokesman Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, this timetable was adopted at the last Council of Ministers and should be examined and refined at an inclusive national dialogue scheduled for April 2024, under the chairmanship of the Archbishop of Libreville.

According to the CTRI, this transition period will enable Gabon’s new authorities  to achieve a number of priority objectives, focusing on the restoration of stability, institutional reform, the fight against corruption, sustainable development, education, national dialogue and public consultation.

In addition to the inclusive national dialogue scheduled for April 2024, the key dates in this timetable are the referendum to adopt the new constitution between November and December 2024, the revision of the electoral roll in April 2025 and the presidential election to end the transition in August 2025.

The CTRI, headed by General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Head of State, has reaffirmed its commitment and determination to guarantee a transparent, effective and inclusive transition process that respects the aspirations of the Gabonese people.
