Algeria: Official Visit of the President of the Sahrawi National Council, Hamma Salama

From November 11 to 13, at the invitation of the President of the National People’s Assembly, the President of the Sahrawi National Council will be in Algeria for an official meeting with authorities, according to a statement released by the lower house of Parliament.

As Algeria continues to stand alongside the Sahrawi people, the visit of the President of the Sahrawi National Council will address current issues, particularly the abuses of the Moroccan occupation forces on Sahrawi soil.

On Wednesday, November 8, units of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) carried out new attacks against reinforcements of the Moroccan occupation forces in the Amgala and Farsia sectors, as reported by the Sahrawi Ministry of Defense.

Advanced SPLA detachments targeted reinforcements of the Moroccan occupation forces in the areas of Amegli El Gaa, Amegli El Hara, Amegli Bengarat, and Amegli Lebkar (Amgala sector), according to an official source.

Before the Wednesday attack, during a sit-in organized in Madrid in front of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the National Day of the Sahrawi Civil Detainee, commemorated on November 8 each year, Sahrawi students were joined by a number of foreign students.

They called for the immediate release of Sahrawi political prisoners arbitrarily imprisoned by Moroccan occupation authorities and urged the international community to sanction Morocco for its repeated and deliberate human rights violations against the Sahrawi people.

As a reminder, on October 30, by a vote of 13 in favor and 2 abstentions, UN Security Council Resolution 2703 on the Sahara reaffirms the position of Morocco, pointing out Algerian responsibility.

The arrival of Hamma Salama in Algiers suggests reflections on all these issues that will lead to new strategies.
