Mali-Niger-Burkina Faso: A radio and television union to communicate the war against terrorism

In a strong act of regional cooperation last weekend, the Office of radio and television of Mali (ORTM) and the radio and television broadcasters of Burkina Faso and Niger signed a partnership agreement aimed at strengthening communication in the context of the fight against terrorism undertaken by their valiant Heads of State.

The agreement was signed as part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Radiodiffusion-Télévision du Burkina (RTB), and marks a joint commitment by the three countries to join forces in the war on communications.

Hassane Baba Diombele, Director General of ORTM, stressed the importance of communication in the current context of the war against terrorism.

He stressed the need to pool the efforts of the three national media, following the example of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) recently set up by Presidents Ibrahim Traoré, Assimi Goïta and Abdourhame Tiani.

For his part, Atéridar Galip Somé, Burkina Faso’s representative at the agreement, saw the signing as a highly symbolic act, reflecting the desire of countries to pool their resources to produce content that effectively supports the dynamics underway in the region.

The partnership agreement provides for collaboration in the co-production of radio and television programmes, programme exchanges, the provision of press correspondents, exchanges of expertise and capacity building, as well as mutual support.

Despite the absence of the Director General of the Office of Radio and Television of Niger. for technical reasons, his colleagues assured him that the document would be forwarded to him for signature, thus sealing the trilateral commitment in this communication of war against terrorism.
